🛩️ Radio Controlled Planes 🛩️
#9 ✈️ Sunday Flying for 33 minutes with 2 planes
I did not get to do much flying on the Saturday, it was all quite overwelling for me. Sunday morning nobody said they wqere going to fly, and in the afternoon I asked if anybody was going and 2 people said they wanted to. So glad they did, as I had an ABSOLUTE blast, flying for jsut over a total of 24 minutes.
#8 ✈️ FT-Simple-Cub Test flight and me at the controls for around 1 minute 20 seconmds, as the battery ran out.
James helped me run through the pre-flight checks on the FT Simple Cub to make sure everything was dialed in. We verified the CG first, plugged in the battery, and double-checked all control connections. He then dialed back the aileron rates to 40% to tame the sensitivity
#7 🪪 MMAC - Modderfontein Model Aero Club Flyers
After receving my SAMAA membership number and card, I was able to register at MMAC
#6 🎟️ SAMAA Membership
After the second Sunday in a row tha I could not (informaly) fly at JP Besuidenhoud since there were other activiets on the go, I decided it is now best to pay for SAMAA membership so that I can join the Modderfontein RC club.
#5 💰 + 🛠️ Flite Test - Simple Cub
I decided I want a cheap and simple airoplane to build and fly, and after some research I found flite test SA. After chatting to Johan over email, I took his advice and bought the FT Simple Cub. The package arrive within 24 hours from me ordering it. It was super fast. I watched the whole build video to see what was required from me. All seemed easy enough. Took me a few hours to find one of my glue guns though.
#4 ✈️ Flying for the 1st time at JP Bezuidenhoud park
I went to go fly my Freeman - JoyToFly at JP Besuidenhoud park
#3 💰 Timber X 1.2
Bought a second-hand Timber X 1.2 meter
#2 ✈️ Fly at Holfontain Aerodrome
I had the chance to fly a Multiplex FunCub XL RC plane for the first time using a buddy box connection. Having logged about two hours on the Phoenix simulator, some controls felt immediately familiar, while other handling characteristics were quite different in real life. I was definitely glad to have that buddy setup, as I made a few misjudgments while flying left-to-right across my field of view. I’ve highlighted the plane in the sky in the image to make it easier to spot as its quite small.
#1 💰 + 🛠️ Freeman - JoyToFly
I bought my very first
Freeman JoyToFly from aerialconcepts.co.za.
I assembled it at my good friend's farm on the evening of the 23rd so we’d be ready for its maiden flight the next day.
To complete my setup, I picked up a second-hand Spektrum DX7 transmitter, two 3S 2200 mAh LiPo batteries, and the Phoenix
Flight Simulator with USB dongle.
Chris was kind enough to throw in a spare charger, a 6-channel receiver, and a mountain of invaluable advice—safe to say it was pure information overload!
